Becoming a Sister: Living Feminine Community

What does it mean to be a sister to other women? How can we become more aware of the eternal, invisible link of sisterhood between all women? When women gather together, we hear each other’s stories, look into each other’s eyes, and affirm each other’s dreams and goals. We remind each other of the freedom that lies in the fertile ground of the feminine.

Many of us experience a certain degree of discomfort in a group of women. This is understandable, considering the fact that we have been conditioned to view womanhood through the eyes of the patriarchal power principle. Our sister within has been wounded by past hurts and disappointments. It takes focused effort to replace the conditioned ideas of competition, criticism, jealousy, and judgement that contaminate the experience of sisterhood. It takes courage to  remember what it means to trust each other, support each other, and celebrate each other as unique, glorious women. The Becoming a Sister workshop provides an environment conducive to finding truth in feminine community.

Discovering Woman, Together

Discovering Woman, Together is a program of six events all designed to create an atmosphere in which women can deepen into richer understanding of what it means to be a woman. It includes a full day workshop on re-imaging woman, three film discussion groups, a celebration of the blood mysteries, and a meaningful group ritual.

Through Discovering Woman, Together women have the opportunity to reach inward to discover a nurturing and informative connection with Woman Herself – the archetype giving life and expression to all women. In addition, through the program women are able to experience a women’s web of power, a consistent feminine community. The combination of individual depth exploration and the support of a web of women seeking deeper meaning in womanhood, produces conditions under which the ever-present undercurrent of authentic femininity can potentially become a conscious reality in the lives of women.

Discovering Woman, Together is a program of feminine depth exploration, the purpose of which is: reaching within to make contact with individual depths, discovering the unifying roots of womanhood (through archetypal correspondence and consistent community), and constructing a new model for feminine reality.

Through an intimate relationship

with the authentic roots of Woman,

we can find deeper meaning in our lives as women.

We can touch something solid within ourselves -

something beyond the conditioning, beyond societal standards,

and beyond false images and stereotypical roles.

We can reach deep into the sacred recesses of our individual psyches,

and seek communion with Woman -

the ancient, primordial, archetypal force

which provides sustenance for each woman’s unique, interpretative lifedance.

Feeding the Hungry Feminine Soul: What are We Hungry For?

"I left this workshop feeling better about myself. I came to the workshop to "fix me", and what I left with was a deeply spiritual experience of loving and honoring myself and the other fabulous women there. It truly was a day of feeding my soul."                 ~recent participant

The conditioned patterns of femininity that have been passed down through generations do not feed the lush, fertile mystery of archetypal Woman that lives beneath the surface in all women. The feminine soul within us is starving. There is no council of elders to initiate females into womanhood and instruct in the women’s mysteries. There are no symbol-rich puberty rituals to help females leave girlhood behind and fully embrace a new life status as women. There are no moon lodges to support the sacredness of the menstrual blood and foster feminine community. There is no societal myth to lift the feminine essence into divine, transcendent purpose. Because of the absence of rites of passage, ritual, consistent community, spiritual direction, and myth in our society, the depths of many women are left without pathways for narrative expression, and the lives of many women are left without meaning. Yet the hunger for more remains, and is sometimes projected onto physical food.

This full-day workshop explores the symbolic nature of food and hunger, as well as the nurturing/devouring mother symbol in the collective psyche. The depth perspective frames food and hunger issues in an understandable and workable manner. The internal voices that make women wrong for craving chocolate and sweets are the voices of an accumulated archetype that is personified during Feeding the Hungry Feminine Soul. What is the multifaceted hunger we are trying to fill with physical food? In this workshop we explore these different kinds and levels of food, and the different types of hunger. We examine what it is we are projecting onto food in order to nurture or punish ourselves. We look closely at different ways to fulfill our needs in a way that also feeds our feminine soul. By incorporating authentic imaginal, impressional, and emotional food for our feminine souls, we take back what is ours by withdrawing the projection from physical food.

The Revelation Workshop

Many females struggle with body image issues, disordered eating patterns, self-destructive behaviors, and self-esteem issues. All of these things stem from the idea that there is something wrong with you. This message becomes part of the conditioned identity early on in life. It is common to lose touch with that inner part that knows its own brilliance, shines its own light, and sings its own song. The Revelation begins with the opposite message: There is NOTHING wrong with you, and helps women reconnect with that place within that holds essential personal truth. The full-day event is filled with activities, discussions, art projects, and visualizations that begin feeding an entirely new mode of being. As participants learn to communicate with the part of them not controlled by the invader, they begin to see they are much more than the behavior patterns that have been stealing their identities. Because of the revelation of their essential qualities, participants gain the ability to imagine their lives without the limitations of lowered self-esteem, disordered eating, body image issues, and other self-destructive or self-limiting behaviors. In designing and facilitating The Revelation, Kyrai earned the 2004 bronze medal for academic excellence at Union Institute and University. This is a full-day (eight hour) program that accommodates a half-hour lunch and 2 short breaks.

Stories of Woman: Hearing, Writing, Telling, Living Imagery of the Feminine Soul

Stories are filled with delicious imagery that feeds us on many levels—emotional, intellectual, spiritual, relational, archetypal, symbolic, instinctive. The stories we live are influenced by and help to shape the stories we hear, tell, sing, and write. Hearing a story filled with empowering feminine imagery can completely alter the life of a woman. It can give her something to reach for, something to remember, something to believe in, something to awaken in herself.  By consciously evaluating the story we live as Woman on Earth, we can begin the enriching process of writing our own story, telling our own story, and eventually living our own story.

As we begin to work with and share the stories emerging from our depths, we notice the echoes of archetypal woman are expressed in these stories. Our connection with these eternal forces is healing because it brings to our awareness a time when women were honored. This correspondence with the layer of story also opens us to the timeless honoring of women innately possessed by all women at their deepest core.

This full-day workshop will explore stories of woman in a variety of mediums. We will work to integrate imagery that genuinely feeds our feminine being.

Understanding the Invader – Breaking Free From Disordered Eating

This Interactive, no-nonsense lecture offers a refreshing and easy-to-understand explanation of disordered eating – including its causes and development. Using the method outlined in her book, Finding a Break In the Clouds, Kyrai personifies disordered eating as “the invader,” offering the opportunity to begin distinguishing the person from the behavior. Kyrai offers a practical method of recovery that encourages the celebration and enhancement of one’s essential identity – of who we are without the invader. This method begins with the message: There is nothing wrong with you. Kyrai presents ideas that bridge the gap between family members and friends, and those suffering from the grip of the invader. The lecture is followed by a question & answer session. Understanding the Invader is a 1 to 2 hour lecture that has been facilitated at women’s groups, parent groups, high schools, churches, and hospitals.

Woman on Earth: Reclaiming an Archetypal Feminine Heritage

Modern females often feel stretched out into many, sometimes conflicting, roles – mother, wife, friend, daughter, sister, gardener, teacher, homemaker, caretaker, career woman, artist, athlete, scholar, and lover. With all of the busy activities and strivings, something still seems to be missing for some women – a part of the person is left feeling empty and dissatisfied. The conditioned patterns of femininity that have been passed down through generations do not feed the lush, fertile mystery of archetypal Woman that lives beneath the surface in all women. The feminine soul within us is starving.

What does it mean to be a woman? To what sources do we turn to answer such a question? All women are linked to a forgotten, archetypal heritage – the heritage that spans all time – the heritage of Woman in all Her wondrous forms. This forgotten and marvelous heritage can be accessed, integrated, and remembered. The efforts of such concentrated and applied work are rewarded with feminine freedom – freedom to live as woman on earth. This is freedom to be a woman fully – at home and out in the world – without compromising the values inherent to feminine nature. Woman on Earth explores the possibility of reaching past linear history and into a rich, limitless archetypal feminine heritage. We will find a model of feminine reality that is not formed by the patriarchal paradigm. Each woman has the chance to grow into a representative of Woman here on earth. Woman on Earth is a 3 to 4 hour program for women of all backgrounds.
